the character◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Nah.
◎ Personality:If you ask, everyone will tell you that Taiwan is a sweet, cheerful girl who is always full of energy. While most will give testimonies to the former (in her image song, she says "The tour guide has to look [places] up from time to time, but forgive her, okay?"), Vietnam can attest to the latter, being constantly dragged into Taiwan's hobbies whether she likes it or not. The country's lively personality betrays her demure appearance, since she isn't ladylike in her manners. She has a mischievous streak and is a little smart-mouthed, teasing China and Vietnam whenever the opportunity is presented to her. In the comics, her speech, although informal, has an enthusiastic and bubbly feel. She's confident enough to thank people who praise her and assert herself to get what she wants.
She may be pushy and seem rude to her elders, but she doesn't go around looking for a fight. She's actually one of the friendlier Asian nations. She can chat up just about anyone, even Belarus, who is one of the more intimidating characters in her canon. Surprisingly observant, she also gives compliments when they are due and can be considerate of the feelings of others. China is loud, but it's Taiwan who tells him to be quiet or he'll scare the birds and make the flowers wilt...
To match with her upbeat personality, she has a very positive outlook on life. In one comic strip, she says, "The Taiwanese don't believe in bad results!" She looks at the brighter side of things even when they are turning out for the worse. When Japan gets a bad fortune himself, brimming with optimism, she tells Japan that they can just forget about it and try again next time! She's a little superstitious, believing that negative words are a bad omen, but that's exactly why she thinks they should be done away with. It may be naive of her, but in between political problems and petty fashion crises, Taiwan has little time to sulk, which is why she has an easygoing attitude about everything.
This doesn't mean she doesn't worry at all—she does! But if something gets her down, she's quick to get back on her feet. In the April Fool's 2011 strips, when someone attempts to blackmail her into wearing a dress with an embarrassing photo of herself, their plan is thwarted when she laughs it off and comments, "It's a well-taken photo!" She doesn't sweat about the small things and lives life one day at a time. That doesn't mean she's lazy, though. She values hard work and ambition and is very earnest in everything she does. She has to be—she has big dreams! To reach her goals, she needs put in a lot of effort and have a lot of patience.
She still gets mad when the mail doesn't arrive on time, though. Today's world is fast-paced, after all. Because of this, she does her best to stay trendy and up to date with the latest fads and happenings. After all, it's not that hard for her if there isn't much happening in the first place, so she finds the strangest aspects in the most mundane things and tries to make each day a little more special than the next. That might possibly explain her tastes and brand of eccentricity, which also share an uncanny resemblance to Japan's. She's very into the kawaii culture, so she makes it a point to look her cutest, too. In fact, she says that being called cute is the highest compliment she can get... Making her rather superficial. But hey, it gives her something to do. The monotony of everyday life is something she's always fighting, so she looks for the fun in everything. Fun gets her mind off her troubles.
But when Taiwan helps you, it's not out of boredom. She is generous with her favors and lives by the principle of giving back whatever she receives tenfold. Even if the person has done only one small thing for her, she'll remember it. This nature of hers is also because she likes getting along with everyone and making people happy.
However, there are times when Taiwan gets bouts of insecurity. She has her limits, too! In one strip, she gets shy when she sees everyone else wearing shirts that display their cleavage and says, while blushing, that she doesn't have the courage to wear a Halloween costume like Ukraine's which shows off the same area. Though usually honest, she hides any negative feelings behind her smile. It doesn't mean that her cheerfulness is fake; she only believes it's better to move on than dwell on the bad things. Besides, a smile always looks better than a frown.
See? She's a strong-willed girl when it counts, but stubborn to a fault. When coupled with her childishness, it also gets her in a lot of trouble. Despite these faults, she means well. Even if it seems like she likes to indulge herself in nothing but entertainment, she is set on two goals in her life: being happy with everyone and being able to stand on her own two feet.
